It’s on to the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup quarterfinals for Gilas Pilipinas.

On Sunday night, the Philippine team completed a sweep of the group stage of the tournament after beating Qatar, 80-74, at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex in Beirut, Lebanon. With the win, Gilas formalizes its first place finish in Group B and their automatic quarterfinals berth.

Matthew Wright lit up the scoreboard with 25 points, including 7-for-12 from beyond the arc.

The game was held five thousand miles away from the Philippines but the crowd inside the jam-packed arena made it feel like home for our team. Right from the national anthem up until the final buzzer, the Filipino fans were loud and supportive.

The Philippines will face the winner of Japan versus Korea in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August 16.
