The San Miguel Beermen nearly lost a huge lead late before holding on to beat the Star Hotshots, 103-97, and stretched their unbeaten run to three games last night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

San Miguel was in total command when it led by 19 points behind a huge game from import Charles Rhodes, who at one point threw a thunderous dunk over Allein Maliksi and Chris Javier. But the Beermen saw their 77-58 reduced to 99-95 when Paul Lee hit a three with less than a minute to play.

But Chris Ross saved the Beermen from a possible collapse, scoring a layup off a foul to eventually preserve their status as the only team without a loss this conference.
