Buoyed by the performance of their new import Terrence Watson, the San Miguel Beermen made a big statement as they defeated the defending champion Barangay Ginebra Kings, 107-103, Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Heading into the game, the Beermen knew that they had a lot going in their favor. The Kings only had a day of rest as they had to battle against the Blackwater Elite last Friday. Ginebra also had no idea what kind on an import Watson would be for the Beermen as he was making his PBA debut.
Watson was named the Best Player of the Game with 27 points and 17 rebounds while giving the Beermen limitless energy. He worked hard cleaning up after his teammates as he had 10 offensive rebounds with most of these leading to putback dunks.
Arwind Santos led the Beermen locals in scoring with 23 points while guards Chris Ross and Alex Cabagnot chipped in 20 and 16 points respectively.
