Gilas Pilipinas is heading into the gold medal match of the SEA Games but they were tested by a tough Singaporean squad as they only won by 8 points, 68-60, Friday night at the MABA Stadium.
With his fellow point guards struggling from the field, Gilas relied on key baskets from Mike Tolomia to build a late double-digit lead for the Philippines. The new member of the Meralco Bolts assisted on a Christian Standhardinger basket and then sank a three point shot of his own for a 60-48 edge.
Gilas wrapped the game up as they were steady from the free throw line in the endgame.
The big men led the fight for Gilas as Troy Rosario scored 14 while Standhardinger had 13. They also combined for 21 rebounds. Tolomia added 10 points.
