After dropping their conference opener, GlobalPort Batang Pier registered their first victory in the 2017 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup at the expense of the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 100-91, on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
GlobalPort’s new import Murphy Holloway had a huge double-double with 29 points and 26 rebounds in his PBA debut. Terrence Romeo scored 21 markers, while Ryan Arana and Stanley Pringle added 13 and 11, respectively.
GlobalPort started the game strong behind Holloway and Arana. The duo combined for 15 points to help the Batang Pier establish a double-digit advantage at the end of the first period, 26-15. The momentum carried over into the next frame as GlobalPort widened the gap to 22 points using an 11-0 run.
Phelps tallied 30 points and 17 boards for the Fuel Masters, who suffered their first loss in three games. Joseph Eriobu and Intal chipped in 11 points each.
