Barangay Ginebra survived a Manila Clasico nail-biter as they defeated the Star Hotshots in overtime, 105-101, on Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
“That was a tough game. At the end of the game, our guys were just absolutely exhausted,” said Ginebra head coach Tim Cone. “It’s a really tough matchup for us. We struggled with our free throw shooting, we struggled with our rebounding, we weren’t finishing our shots well. It wasn’t that well of a well-played game. We hung around and we hung around. I felt like we stole it because they outplayed us throughout the game.”
Justin Brownlee powered the Barangay to victory with his 33 points, ten rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Big men Greg Slaughter and Joe Devance also played crucial roles in the win as they finished with 17 points apiece. Devance flirted with a triple-double as he also tallied eleven boards and eight assists.
