It was a rare first game on a weekday for Barangay Ginebra which usually plays as the main game during Sundays but the Kings made sure that their fans who showed up early at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum would get the show they were expecting.
Ginebra drubbed the Kia Picanto, 120-99, to get their second victory in their title-retention bid in the 2017 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup, Wednesday afternoon.
The Picanto simply did not have enough weapons to present a challenge to the defending champions. Ginebra built their first double-digit with 4:39 left in the first quarter, 17-6, off a basket from LA Tenorio and they never looked back from that point. Coach Tim Cone sent in waves upon waves of weapons to the floor and even their players from the bench contributed to their scoring barrage.
Ginebra’s lead ballooned to its highest at 34 points, 98-64, at the 9:33 after a bucket from Mark Caguioa who was named the Best Player of the Game.
