Magnolia won its last game in the elimination round over San Miguel Beer, but the quirks of the quotient tiebreak still had the Hotshots missing a Top Six seeding in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.
The Hotshots topped the Beermen, 101-97, to force a three-way jam among Barangay Ginebra, SMB and Magnolia from fifth to seventh on their identical 6-5 win-loss marks.
Brgy. Ginebra, San Miguel and Magnolia finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, upon the application of the quotient tiebreak system.
It’s TNT KaTropa versus San Miguel and Meralco against Ginebra in a pair of best-of-three quarterfinals that will fire off Monday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
As the seventh seed, Magnolia takes on No. 2 Alaska, needing to win two in a row in order to advance to the Final Four.
