The Star Hotshots pulled away from the Blackwater Elite squad in the final period to win their first game of the 2017 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup, 103-86, on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The story of the game was the stellar play of veteran PJ Simon, who exploded for 20 points in the game. Despite being flanked by several up-and-coming as well as current stars in the backcourt, Simon stole the show with his stellar shooting coming off the bench.
The Elite were spearheaded by Simpson’s 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals. Mike DiGregorio and Mark Cruz chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Hotshots debuted in style with a victory, while the Elite fell to the bottom of the standings with a 0-2 card.
