The GlobalPort Batang Pier started Game 1 of its quarterfinal match with the 2nd seeded Magnolia Hotshots like a house on fire. And before the Hotshots knew what hit them, they were already down by a whopping 20 points.
Magnolia battled back in the 2nd period and was able to trim the deficit to only 4. The Batang Pier, however, responded with three straight triples to close out the quarter with another double digit lead going into the halftime break.
The Hotshots restarted their fightback in the 3rd period and eventually seized the lead on a Mark Barroca three with time down to three minutes.
This is when all hell broke loose on the GlobalPort bench. Jonathan Grey called a timeout on the floor and immediately Pido Jarencio charged towards Terrence Romeo. The two then engaged in a shouting match in full view of the fans on TV and on the venue.
Cooler heads eventually prevailed and the two patched things up.
The Batang Pier, however, failed to reestablish control of the game and bowed out of the conference with a 86-79 Game 1 loss to the Hotshots.
