The TNT Katropa saw their 21-point lead dissipate slowly against the Meralco Bolts but they did just enough in the end game to come away with a 113-107 win in the 2017 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup, Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Bolts, finalist in last season’s edition of the Governors’ Cup, cut their deficit down to just two points with still 1:42 left in the game after Chris Newsome converted on both his freebies.
At that point, TNT relied on their most potent weapons to weather the Meralco surge.
Rice led TNT with 32 points and 11 rebounds but he did not shoot very from the field with a 12-of-30 clip. The Katropa also got a combined 27 points from Kelly Williams and Roger Pogoy.
Baser Amer served as Durham’s main backup for Meralco as he scattered 21 points in the game but he was slowed down in the end game as TNT’s import was the one who hounded the guard on defense.
