Matthew Wright and import Jameel McKay delivered in the clutch as the Phoenix Fuel Masters defeated the debuting Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, 94-91, in an Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup squeaker on Saturday at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gym in Davao City.
Wright, who was held scoreless in the their game against TNT last week, exploded for a game-high 27 points in this one – including 10 in the fourth quarter. He hit two three-pointers in the fourth quarter and helped seal the win with two ice-cold free throws in the dying seconds of the game.
McKay, meanwhile, finished with 15 points and a whopping 28 rebounds alongside three steals and two blocks. He also made some clutch baskets, including four of Phoenix’s last six points in the game.
With the win, Phoenix snapped out of a two-game skid to improve to 2-2. Ginebra dropped to 0-1 in its first appearance this conference.
Japeth Aguilar and Joe Devance each scored 15 markers for the Kings while import Justin Brownlee finished with 12 points in just under 30 minutes of play. – InterAksyon.com
