2019 Commissioner’s Cup Quarterfinal Scenarios

The 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals is just around the corner with just one game day left in the elimination round.

Scheduled for Wednesday, July 17 are 2 matches which will determine spots number 1 and 2 and 5 to 8. First game will be San Miguel taking on Meralco while the 2nd match features TNT and Magnolia.

Already assured of twice-to-beat incentives are TNT and NorthPort, currently ranked 1 and 2 in the team standings with 9-1 and 9-2 records, respectively, with the KaTropa’s game against the Hotshots resolving the issue of who will finish as the top seed.

Blackwater recently clinched 3rd seed with its win over Alaska while Brgy. Ginebra settled for 4th despite ending up with similar 7-4 cards with the Elite due to winner-over-the-other rule.

Tied for 5th place are sister teams Magnolia and San Miguel with identical 5-5 records while Rain or Shine is at 7th with a 5-6 slate.

Alaska and Phoenix Pulse have similar 4-7 cards while Meralco is at 10th with a 3-7 record.

Now, these are the following scenarios depending on the results of the final 2 games.

1. If San Miguel and Magnolia win.

Both teams will end up with similar 6-5 records but the Hotshots will claim 5th place since it won over the Beermen.

Meralco will be eliminated while Alaska and Phoenix Pulse will figure in a knockout match.

TNT will end up tied with NorthPort at 9-2 but the KaTropa will slide to 2nd since it lost to the Batang Pier.

(1) NorthPort vs (8) Alaska or Phoenix Pulse
(2) TNT vs (7) Rain or Shine
(3) Blackwater vs (6) San Miguel
(4) Brgy. Ginebra vs (5) Magnolia

2. If San Miguel and TNT win.

The Beermen will secure the 5th spot while the Hotshots will end up in a tie with Rain or Shine at 5-6. The Elasto Painters will finish at 6th since it won over the Hotshots.

TNT will end up as the top seed with a 10-1 record while the Bolts will be eliminated.

Alaska and Phoenix Pulse will figure in a knockout match for the 8th spot.

(2) NorthPort vs (7) Magnolia
(3) Blackwater vs (6) Rain or Shine
(4) Brgy. Ginebra vs (5) San Miguel

3. If Meralco and Magnolia win.

The Bolts will improve to 4-7 which will result in a triple-tie with Alaska and Phoenix Pulse. The Fuel Masters will be eliminated due to inferior quotient with the 8th and final spot to be disputed by a knockout match between the Aces and Meralco.

TNT will end up tied with NorthPort with 9-2 records but will slide to 2nd place since it lost to the Batang Pier.

The Hotshots will finish at 6-5 which is good for 5th place. The Beermen will drop into a tie with Rain or Shine at 5-6 but will clinch 6th due to winner-over-the-other rule.

(3) Blackwater vs (6) San Miguel
(4) Brgy. Ginebra vs (5) Magnolia

4. If Meralco and TNT win.

The Hotshots and the Beermen will end up at 5-6 and a triple-tie with idle Rain or Shine will ensue. Magnolia will claim the 5th spot due to superior quotient while the Elasto Painters clinch 6th place. San Miguel will drop to 7th due to having the worst quotient among the three.
