The Alaska Aces gave the debuting Magnolia Hotshots a rude welcome, pulling off a 103-80 lopsided win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Chris Daniels led the way for the Aces with 23 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point country.
I think we caught them tired, with a lack of preparation, the quick turnaround,” said Aces coach Alex Compton of the Hotshots who are coming off a grueling 7-game series with eventual champion San Miguel in the Philippine Cup.
“You don’t see another team’s best, when they’re coming off the finals, in their first game,” added Compton.
Alaska, which celebrated the return of big man Vic Manuel who finished with 6 points in 8 minutes of action, picked up its 2nd straight win to improve to 3-2.
Jvee Casio added with 17 points on a combined 7-of-9 shooting from the field. The former Green Archer shot 3-of-5 from long distance and provided the spark in the 2nd period where the Aces broke the game wide open and never looked back.
Ian Sangalang paced the Hotshots with 17 points and 9 boards while Mark Barroca added 15 markers.
Returning import John Fields was a non-factor as the former Columbian reinforcement could only produce 12 points and 6 rebounds in 30 minutes of playing time.
