Alaska team owner Wilfred Steven Uytengsu has given some pep talks to his players from time to time.

The one he gave during halftime of the game against NorthPort Sunday proved crucial.

“It was short but powerful and the guys responded,” related coach Alex Compton after his Aces responded with a 95-85 victory over the Batang Pier to clinch a coveted goal in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“I’m really grateful our owner is such a great communicator,” added Compton, whose team was down by 41-47 at the break but came out bristling on defense and riding Mike Harris’ back on offense in the second half.

“He came into the dugout and talked for about one-and-a-half minutes. It wasn’t about X’s and Os. The message Fred said was received and it affected our play in a very positive way.”

Alaska 95 – Harris 27, Banchero 15, Teng 13, Manuel 12, Casio 11, Racal 9, Baclao 6, Enciso 2, Thoss 0, Exciminiano 0, Galliguez 0.
