The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is considering sending a team composed of PBA players instead of the usual practice of fielding amateurs since the competition isn’t that tough but with the Philippines hosting the biennial meet, the country’s basketball governing body is prepared to make an exception.
“We’re hosting the Games, so we want to make sure we field in the best team,” said SBP president Al Panlilio. “If the PBA is committed, then might as well send the best team.”
And the PBA, through its commissioner Wilie Marcial, has pledged its full support if and when the SBP decides to send the best team possible.
The 36-year old Cabagnot was part of the Gilas team that competed in the 2nd round of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. He made his national team debut with a 9-point performance in a loss to Iran and then followed it up by firing 16 points in the win over Qatar.
The 8-time PBA champion was held scoreless against Kazakhstan which turned out to his final outing in the tournament.
