Alex Cabagnot fined P20K after ‘hit’ on RJ Jazul reclassified as FFP2 upon review

San Miguel guard Alex Cabagnot was slapped a P20,000 fine by the PBA for his closed fist hit on the groin area of Phoenix Pulse counterpart RJ Jazul during the 2nd quarter of Game 4 of their best-of-seven semifinal series which the Beermen won convincingly 114-91.

Cabagnot actually wasn’t called for anything after the incident which also saw Alex Mallari and Matt Ganualas-Rosser going at each other. Mallari was eventually ejected from game for incurring back-to-back technical fouls while Rosser was called for one.

Phoenix coach Louie Alas claimed that he actually saw Cabagnot sneak in a punch right under the nose of the referee and was flabbergasted after no call was made on that move.

The league, however, came out with the penalty on the veteran SMB guard after a thorough review of the game tape.

Mallari and Rosser were fined P2,600 and P1,600 respectively.

Jaypee Mendoza was meted a P6,600 fine for incurring a Flagrant Foul Penalty 1 (FFP1) and a technical foul.

Ron Dennison was fined P5,000 for a landing spot foul on Kelly Nabong who, on the otherhand, was fined P3,400 for incurring his 4th tech of the conference.

Arwind Santos and Jason Perkins were fined P1,600 each. Santos for taunting while Perkins was for second motion.

Game 5 of the highly physical series is on Thursday, April 25 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
