Meralco warmed up for what its coach termed as a ‘big weekend’ for the team by blasting Alaska, 101-75, in Friday’s PBA Governors Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Baser Amer waxed hot from three-point range in the third quarter when the Bolts finally pulled away for good from an Alaska side that could do nothing right from thereon despite parading a new import in Franko House.
Amer poured in 14 points during that big Meralco surge in the third including three from beyond the arc. He finished with a game-high 27 points on 6-of-11 shooting from three-point range for the Bolts, who improved their record to 2-1.
Coach Norman Black said the 26-point blowout should serve his in good stead as the Bolts face tough-playing Phoenix Fuel Masters this Sunday.
“We consider this as a good bounce back win coming off our loss to NLEX. (But) it gets tougher on Sunday. Even though Phoenix lost their last game, it played quite well against TNT and it had a chance to win the game particularly up to the last six minutes,” said Black of the Bolts’ scheduled back-to-back games.
