Don’t look now but Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Andray Blatche is bound to play in the PBA as an import if and when the national team qualifies for the 2019 FIBA World Cup which is scheduled for August this year in China.
The 32-year old native of Syracuse, New York is thinking of playing out his contract in China before plying his wares either for the NLEX Road Warriors of Gilas coach Yeng Guiao or TNT KaTropa, the flagship team of the MVP Group which is also the primary benefactor of the national team.
A win over Kazakhstan in the team’s final game for the Asian Qualiifers coupled by a loss by Japan, Jordan or Lebanon will set the stage for Blatche’s PBA debut.
During the press conference moments after the Philippines vs Qatar match, an official of the Qatar team wondered aloud if Blatche would be interested in playing in the country as two teams from the Qatari league have expressed their interest in enlisting the services of the former NBA player.
An amused Guiao immediately butted in and answered in jest, “Eh di sa Pilipinas na lang.”
