San Miguel, already the proud owner of the last five PBA Philippine Cup titles, is still far from over from its quest to dominate the All-Filipino conference.
According to SMB veteran and team co-captain Arwind Santos, the league’s winningest squad is targeting no less than 8 Philippine Cup crowns.
“Sabi nga namin gusto namin walong All-Filipino (title) talaga. Nabanggit ko yan. Alam ng teammates ko yan na pilitin natin hangga’t magkakasama tayo,” explained the 38-year old native of Angeles City, Pampanga during a podcast with TV commentators Carlo Pamintuan and Magoo Marjon.
“More championships, yung talaga yung role namin (as players),” he added.
Even without the presence of main man June Mar Fajardo, the team is all primed up to continue with their dominance in the league’s most prestigious conference. The title defense, however, will have to wait as the games were put on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak.
With the newly crowned 6-time MVP watching from the sidelines, the Beermen pummeled sister team Magnolia in the season opener last March 8 which turned out to be the only game so far in the league’s 45th season.
“Take naming challenge yung pagkawala ni June Mar in a positive way,” said Santos who finished with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds to go along with five steals.
“Maka-walo si June Mar na MVP. Hangga’t magkakasama kami, gagawin ko ang lahat ng part ko para suportahan siya sa part na yun at at makuha yung championship,” added the 9-time PBA champion.
