Rain or Shine big man Beau Belga recovered from a nasty fall and escaped with a close win over Russel Escoto to successfully defend the Obstacle Challenge title during the 2019 PBA All-Star weekend, Friday night at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.
The 32-year old native of Sorsogon slipped during his head-to-head match-up with Bryan Faundo in the 2nd round but managed to recover just in time to enter the finals of the skills challenge opposite Escoto and TNT’s Yousef Taha.
Belga finished the course in 21 seconds flat, three-tenths of a second faster than the second placer Escoto. Taha struggled in the final round and finished last at 26.3.
The winning time was faster compared to the 21.7 seconds that Belga recorded last year.
The burly center took home a plaque and the cash prize of P30,000.
Belga, however, thought that everything was over the moment he faltered in the 2nd round.
“Nung nadapa ako sabi ko talo na ako. Pero pagbangon ko nakita ko si Bryan pumapasa pa, kaya sabi ko puwede pa. Na-challenge ako. Ang sabi ko lang mahalaga maitawid ko lang sa next round,” he said.
