Beermen take on dangerous Fuel Masters in bid to break losing spell

San Miguel Beer has never been beaten three in a row in a long while.

The Beermen try to snap that losing skein and start a rally as they tangle with the raging Phoenix Fuel Masters in the PBA Governors Cup at the MOA Arena Friday.

With successive setbacks to the Barangay Ginebra Kings, the Magnolia Hotshots and the Alaska Milk Aces, the Beermen are at eighth spot with a poor 2-4 win-loss card going to their 7 p.m. tiff with the Fuel Masters.

Coach Louie Alas and his Fuel Masters, meanwhile, are now at joint second place with the Blackwater Elite and the Hotshots at 6-2. They take on the Beermen riding the crest of a massive 123-97 conquest of the NLEX Road Warriors Wednesday.

Alas is upbeat but also wary especially as they face the SMB team that could be due to regain its lethal form coming from a five-day break.

Mathematically, San Miguel is still in the race for the Top Four and the twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals. But stars have to align so to speak for the Beermen to achieve the incentive.
