The San Miguel Beermen will miss four key players for its opening day match-up with the Shenzhen Aviators in the East Asia Super League Terrific 12, Tuesday night at the Tap Seac Multi-sports Pavilion in Macau.
Aside from gunner Marcio Lassiter who is still recovering form an MCL sprain which he sustained against NorthPort during the quarterfinal round of the Commissioner’s Cup, the powerhouse team will be without the services of June Mar Fajardo, Alex Cabagnot and Kelly Nabong.
The 32-year old Lassiter missed the remainder of the playoffs and eventually lost his spot in the Gilas Pilipinas team which competed in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Fajardo is still nursing a sprained ankle while Cabagnot is down with a flu.
Nabong, meanwhile, is still in the US attending to some personal matters and will arrive Thursday in time for the team’s game against the Ryukyu Golden Kings.
Veteran guard Chris Ross is also a doubtful starter having arrived from a US vacation just recently.
Despite the depleted roster, the Beermen are still expected to give their opponents a run for their money.
“We’re a few men down but the guys that we got, we should have enough to go out there and compete and ty to win some games. We’ll try to put on a good show,” said coach Leo Austria.
