Blackwater trades Abu Tratter to Alaska for Carl Bryan Cruz

In a deal which came two weeks after Alaska appointed longtime assistant and former player Jeff Cariaso to the top coaching post following the resignation of Alex Compton, the Aces dealt 3rd year forward Carl Bryan Cruz to the Blackwater Elite for rookie big man Abu Tratter.

The trade was consummated late Wednesday and the papers already sent to the PBA office for approval. Commissioner Willie Marcial, however, is still in Foshan China together with other members of the Board of Governors to support the national team in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Even without the formal approval of the league, Cruz and Tratter were reportedly given the go-signal by the former ballclubs to practice with their new teams staring Thursday.

The Aces will now parade the duo of Tratter and Jeron Teng who were teammates when De La Salle University won the UAAP championship in 2016. Aside from the two, the other former Green Archers in the roster are Yutien Andrada and JVee Casio.

The Elite, on the other hand, will have the Far Eastern University trio of Cruz, Mac Bello and Raymar Jose at their disposal when the 2019 Governors’ Cup unfolds on September 20.

The trade for Tratter was the second player movement for the Aces during the break. The Wilfred Uytengsu-owned squad earlier acquired Maverick Ahanmisi from the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in exchange for Ping Exciminiano and a first-round pick in the upcoming rookie draft.
