TNT KaTropa absorbed an unexpected beating from the slumping NorthPort Batang Pier that eliminated the team from the race for the top 2 spots which carries an incentive of a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

The flagship team of the MVP Group couldn’t get their act together all game long and eventually bowed to the Batang Pier 109-93, Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

KaTropa head coach Bong Ravena lamented the shock defeat, the team’s 4th in 11 games.

“Sayang talaga. We’re not making stops, plus they played really well. They shot high, like 46 percent from the outside. We’re off tonight. We cannot shoot our free throws, we cannot make our stops,” said Ravena.

TNT shot a miserable 39 percent from the field while making only 6 out of 21 free throws. On the other hand, NorthPort shot 52 percent from the field and 46 percent (14 out of 30) from long distance.

With the defeat, there’s a big possibility of TNT taking on defending champion San Miguel in a best-of-three series, something which Ravena says the team should prepare heavily for.

“Paghahandaan na lang namin. We have to put more emphasis on – as usual – our defense. ‘Yung depensa namin, kailangan bigyan namin ng onting sipag pa. ‘Yun lang. Kita naman lahat eh”.
