Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel is still in the thick of the fight for the much-coveted top two spots in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup and while the addition of super scorer Stanley Pringle has certainly boosted the team’s campaign, waiting in the wings are three more players who can make the defending champions a much, much deadlier squad.
The lefty trio of Art dela Cruz, Jeff Chan and Jared Dillinger are still indisposed for the time being and head coach Tim Cone doesn’t want to set a time table for their return. Instead, the league’s most successful mentor wants the three to focus on getting completely healed before returning to active duty
According to the team’s medical staff, Dela Cruz, who has missed the team’s last 7 games due to a strained groin, could start practicing within the week although he is still expected to miss the Gin Kings’ next assignment which is against Magnolia on Sunday, July 7.
Dillinger, on the other hand, is still a couple of weeks away from complete recovery from a quad injury which he sustained while still with the Meralco Bolts.
Chan, for his part, is still recovering from a sprained right ankle which may take another month.
“I keep looking at the bench, behind the bench, and I see Jeff Chan, I see Art Dela Cruz, I see Jared Dillinger. My mouth waters thinking, ‘Wow, wait ‘till we get those guys back’,” said Cone shortly after the team’s victory over Alaska, Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Those guys are incredible bonus to us when they can trickle back into our lineup. But in the meantime, we’ll play with who we have,” added Cone.
Brgy. Ginebra is currently running 5th with a 5-4 record and have 2 games left on the schedule – against Magnolia on July 7 and Columbian on July 14.
