Fresh from locking up its first round pick in the recent rookie draft to a one-year deal, Brgy. Ginebra did the very same thing to its second round pick.
Jerrick Balanza became the latest Gin King after fellow incoming freshman Arvin Tolentino.
The 23-year old guard out of Letran, who was taken as the 13th overall pick in the regular draft by the Gin Kings, was signed to a one-year contract similar to that of Tolentino’s.
The two rookies are expected to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Teytey Teodoro and Julian Sargent who were both dropped from the roster and have found their way back to the MPBL and PBA D-League, respectively.
Before coming to terms with the crowd darlings, Balanza was rumored to be part of a deal which would’ve sent him and Greg Slaughter to NorthPort for Christian Standhardinger.
Had the deal pushed through, Balanza would be reunited with Knights coach Bonnie Tan who is also the team manager of the Batang Pier.
As fate would have it, Slaughter announced on social media that he is taking an indefinite leave and as a result aborted what sources claim as already a ‘done deal’.
