The Magnolia Hotshots absorbed their third straight defeat after winning their last five and head coach Chito Victolero bared that some of the team’s key players have been ailing since the Zamboanga game against the Meralco Bolts which could be a factor in the team’s sudden string of losses.
“We have a lot of, parang, sakit for the last seven days pagbalik namin ng Zamboanga. So almost all of my key players parang sobrang nagkasakit sila, nahihirapan kami,” said Victolero shortly after the team’s 82-86 loss to Rain or Shine, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Colisem.
The Hotshots played in three straight game days after the Zamboanga win over the Bolts which all resulted in defeats and delayed the team’s entry into the next round.
Victolero, however, refused to put the blame on fatigue and cited poor defense as the most probable culprit.
“Siguro may problema talaga yung depensa namin. Siguro we need to check ourselves,” explained the 1-time PBA champion mentor.
Magnolia’s next assignment is against the pace-setting TNT KaTropa which is currently the hottest team in the league with 7 straight wins. The game will happen one week from the team’s last which is something positive as far as Victolero is concerned.
“Magandang pahinga ito sa amin. Maganda nito, medyo malayo pa yung next game namin and we can siguro review everything, kung ano yung kulang, ano yung mali.”
“We need to prepare hard for Talk ‘N Text. Nagawa ng NorthPort. So we stay positive on this.”
