San Miguel coach Leo Austria believes that Christian Standhardinger is now capable of reaching his full potential after the 30-year Fil-German was shipped to the NortHPort Batang Pier for Moala Tautuaa.
Standhardinger averaged a measly 3.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 12 minutes of action in 4 games for the Beermen in the ongoing 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
“I’m sure maipapakita niya yung full potential niya,” said Austria after the league officially approved the one-on-one deal.
The 30-year old Standhardinger, who spent 4 full conferences with San Miguel after the powerhouse team selected him as top overall pick in the 2017 rookie draft, was credited by Austria for his role in the Beermen’s last 2 title conquests.
“Christian helped us a lot in winning the last two championships, especially in the last conference where he played solid defense against (Terrence) Jones,” said the former PBA player.
“I’m really sad that sometimes I couldn’t give him the minutes that he deserves. Never nag-exceed ng 30 minutes ang playing time niya eh,” added Austria.
With Standhardinger set to become the top big man of the Batang Pier, Austria is convinced that the 2-time PBA champion will finally blossom into the player he is fully capable of.
“I’m happy for him because he was able to contribute a lot dito, and now, he can get the playing time he needs sa NorthPort. Mapapasaya din namin si Christian dahil he’ll get the playing time na gusto niya.”
