Rookie CJ Perez exploded for a career-high 39 points to power Columbian to a 120-105 win over NLEX, Saturday night at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
The Dyip prevailed over the Road Warriors in a battle of still winless teams in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The top overall pick in the most recent rookie draft opened the game with a dunk and then added five more as the Dyip detonated an 11-0 bomb to start the match.
Columbian continued to roll and led by 14 points, 53-39 going into the halftime break. The Johndel Cardel-montored squad racked up a league-record 14 steals in the first half alone.
The win gave the Dyip its first win of the conference after 4 starts and dropped the Road Warriors to the bottom of the team standings with a 0-4 card.
Kyle Barone, who was playing is his final game, accounted for 31 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks to end his short stint on a winning note.
“Sabi ko nga, coming from 0-3, mahirap i-motivate. Pero this is basketball. Every game is very important. Even if we are 0-3, be professional, do your work, and do your job. It came out na nanalo kami ngayon,” said a jubiland Cardel afer the game.
Tony Mitchell led the Road Warriors with 32 points and 16 boards while Philip Paniamogan added 18.
