CJ Perez leads Columbian to 114-108 victory over Robert Bolick, NorthPort

CJ Perez outplayed fellow Gilas Pilipinas rookie Robert Bolick in their first duel since the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup as Columbian pulled one over NorthPort, 114-108, in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Perez led the Dyip with a game-high 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and a block in almost 40 minutes of action.

Last year’s first overall pick scored 16 of his team’s 38 3rd quarter points which turned an 8-point deficit into a 5-point advantage, 90-85, going into the payoff period.

“I asked them at the half what happened with what we practiced?,” said Dyip coach Johnedel Cardel after his team trailed by as much as 12 in the early goings.

“So in the second half they came out with more energy. CJ took charge and si Khap (Alston) began to impose himself inside,” he added.

Alston finished with 25 points and 17 boards while Rashawn McCarthy and Eric Camson contributed 18 and 14 markers, respectively for Columbian who improved to 2-1.

Bolick paced the Batang Pier, who fell down to 1-2, with 23 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. Moala Tautuaa added 22 points and 14 boards while Garvo Lanete chipped in 19.
