Brgy. Ginebra guard Scottie Thompson could not buy a basket during the team’s do-or-die match against Manila Clasico rival Magnolia, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 25-year old Thompson missed all but one of his 11 field goal attempts and both his free throws to finish the game with a measly 3 points.

Instead of sulking, however, the popular native of Padada, Davao del Sur focused on the thing he does best, grab rebounds.

Thompson collected a career-best 19 rebounds, 10 from the offensive end, and added 7 assists and 3 steals in 43 minutes of action which all went for naught as the Gin Kings absorbed their second consecutive defeat at the hands of the Hotshots and in the process crashed out of the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Philippine Cup via 1-2 series defeat.

“Wala kasi akong magawa eh. Hindi ako maka-shoot. Tinry ko rin mag-hustle. Wala na akong ibang pwdeng gawin,” said a dejected Thompson.

“Para sa kanila talaga. From the start, outplayed kami. Congrats sa kanila,” added the popular cager.

Looking ahead, the 5th overall pick of the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft sees the early exit as an added preparation time for the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup where his team is the defending champion.

“Napaaga exit namin kahit hindi namin gusto. Siguro mas maaga rin preparation sa amin coming to the Commissioner’s Cup at makaka-practice na sa amin si Justin,” said Thompson.
