The Blackwater Elite have named assistant coach Aris Dimaunahan as the interim coach in time for the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup after Bong Ramos verbally informed team management of his decision to vacate the head coaching post.
“We have accepted his resignation and appointed Aris Dimaunahan as interim coach,” confirmed team owner Dioceldo Sy.
The 41-year old Dimaunahan, who has been an assistant coach for the Elite since 2014, started his career with Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel in 2003. He also played for Air21, Coca-Cola, Barako Bull and Alaska. After a brief stint in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), he returned to the PBA as an assistant for Blackwater under head coach Leo Isaac, also a former Brgy. Ginebra guard.
Ramos, who still has a year left in his contract, will meet with Elite board representative Siliman Sy on Thursday to formally relinquish the post he inherited from Isaac during last season’s Commissioner’s Cup.
Rommel Adducul and Bogs Adornado will assume the role of deputies to Dimaunahan.
After a breakthrough performance in last year’s Governors’ Cup, the Elite floundered in the opening conference of the league’s 44th season after surprisingly trading away key players Poy Erram, John Pinto and Paul Zamar.
