Remy Macaspac Martin won’t be part of the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s team which is set to compete in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
The 20-year old Filipino-American broke the unfortunate development on his Instagram account.
“Just got a call and I will not be representing the Philippines in the World Games!” wrote Martin.
While disappointed from the non-inclusion, the Arizona State point guard bared that he was nonetheless honored to be considered and will be ready if and when another opportunity to represent the country arises.
“It was an honor to be mentioned. I will always represent. Maybe next time!” he added.
In a separate post, Martin was more forthcoming, even admitting that he was actually hurt by the snub but remains grateful for the support he received from Filipino hoops fans.
“Hurt. Will always represent the Philippines. Thank you for the support! #NextTime #GoGilas” wrote the 6-foot playmaker on a post with an image of the Philippine flag.
Gilas head coach Yeng Guiao has decided to stick with the original pool from the 6th and last window of the Asian Qualifiers. The team will begin its preparation for the tournament, which is scheduled from August 31 to September 15, with twice-a-week sessions beginning Monday.
