RJ Abarrientos caught fire just in the nick of time to power the Gilas Men’s team to a 21-15 win over Samoa and end their 2019 FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup campaign on a bright note, Thursday in Changsha, China.
The sweet-shooting guard out of FEU torched the opponents with 14 points to give his team a 10-4 lead.
Theodore McFarland took charge and brought Samoa to within 2, 13-11, before Rhayyan Amsali uncorked 4 straight points to give the Philippine team some breathing room.
Abarrientos then applied the finishing touches with a long two-pointer to put the game away for good.
Amsali finished with 6 points while Barkley Ebona contributed 2.
The Philippines, thus, ended the tournament with back-to-back wins to finish with a 2-2 card but it wasn’t enough to give the team a spot in the quarterfinals.
Philippines 22 – Abarrientos 14, Amsali 6, Ebona 2.
Samoa 15 – McFarland 5, Levy 5, Paia 3, Tufuga 2.
