The Gilas Pilipinas Women’s 3X3 team fought tooth and nail against their much taller counterparts from Australia but could not contain the hot-shooting of Alice Kunek as they bowed out of contention following their 16-21 loss at the hands of the Aussies in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup, Sunday afternoon in Changsha, China.
The Filipinas were still on top, 4-1, before Kunek started to wax hot from all angles.
Claire Castro brought the Philippines to within 1, 15-16, but Kunek came through with a two-pointer and then followed it up with a two-point play to put some distance between the two teams.
Kunek finished with 13 points while Rebecca Cole contributed four.
Janine Pontejos led the Philippine side with 8 points, all from long distance, while Afril Bernardino and Jack Animam added five and two, respectively
Australia 21 – Kunek 13, Cole 4, Garrick 2, Zavecz 2.
Philippines 16 – Pontejos 8, Bernardino 5, Animam 2, Castro 1.
