NLEX Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao was thrown out from the game during the 2nd period of the team’s match against the Alaska Aces for incurring two successive technical fouls due to use profane language.

The ejection, however, turned out to be some sort of a blessing in disguise as the Road Warriors displayed their best defensive game so far in the conference and went on to post a lopsided win over the Aces to the tune of 91-70.

The 59-year old Guiao, who is concurrently the head coach of the country’s national basketball team, was surprised he got called for the technical, saying it’s something that he has already done countless of times before.

“Profane language daw eh dati naman ako ganun. I don’t think it was extraordinary for me. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise,” said a grinning Guiao.

Assistant coach Jojo Lastimosa took over the reigns as the Road Warriors’ stingy defense held the Aces to a paltry 28% shooting clip from the field for the entire game.

“Coach Jolas did an excellent job taking over for me. Plus the guys stepped up. But really it was our defense that did it for us. I was pretty confident kahit wala ako sa loob na as long as we execute the game plan, we’ll be okay. Kasi well prepared naman yung team defensively against Alaska,” Guiao added.
