Magnolia played a heads-up game for 48 minutes and turned back TNT KaTropa, 116-103, to secure a Top Four finish in the PBA Governors Cup eliminations at the Ynares Sports Center here Friday night.
Ian Sangalang, Mark Barroca, Paul Lee and Romeo Travis led the way in Magnolia’s tremendous effort as the Hotshots bounced back from a loss to the Meralco Bolts the last time out and seized the solo lead in the season-ending tourney with an 8-2 win-loss card.
The decisive victory over the Texters assured the Hotshots a spot in the Top Four and the crucial twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals.
Nonetheless, the Hotshots are expected to come out strong and go hard for a win as they play the Barangay Ginebra Kings in their keenly awaited showdown at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots built momentum early and kept a searing pace on the way to a 13-point triumph over the Texters.
With the loss, the Texters dropped to joint eighth place with the Meralco Bolts at 4-6.
