Gilas Pilipinas had a very frustrating campaign in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, losing all of its 5 games by an average margin of 29.4 points which all but sealed the Philippine team’s last place finish in the international tournament.
Gilas would’ve avoided ending up in 32nd place had Jordan lost its final game against Senegal by at least 16 points but it didn’t materialize as the Jordanians pulled off an unexpected 79-77 victory to move up in the placings.
Senegal, the team which Gilas defeated during the 2014 edition of the World Cup on its way to a 1-4 record and a 21st place finish, failed to pick-up a victory in the meet together with Japan, Ivory Coast and the Philippines.
Gilas’ -147 point-differential was the worst among the 32 teams while Japan (-130), Senegal (-102) and Ivory Coast (-74) rounded up the bottom 4.
Of the 4 teams, the Philippines is the highest ranked nation at 31. Ivory Coast has a world ranking of 64 while Japan and Senegal are ranked 48 and 37, respectively.
