Jayjay Helterbrand stars as Ginebra outguns Purefoods in PBA legends game

Newly retired King Jayjay Helterbrand came up with a triple-double to power the league’s most popular team to a 97-89 victory over bitter rival Purefoods in the main event of the PBA Legeds, Return of the Rivals exhibition match Sunday night at the full house Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 42-year old Helterbrand led Ginebra with 21 points aside from hauling down 10 rebounds and issuing 11 assists in the highly anticipated game which was tied at halftime.

Vince Hizon also had an impressive performance as he finished with 19 points, 16 in the pivotal 3rd period where the Kings broke the game wide open.

The trio of Marlou Aquino, Noli Locsin and Bal David contributed double figures with 15, 14 and 12 points respectively.

Roger Yap topscored for Purefoods with 27 points while Paul Artidi and current Magnolia assistant coach Tony Boy Espinosa had 14 points apiece.

The Kings took home P100,000 for winning the game while Helterbrand and Hizon shared the P25,000 prize for being co-Best Players of the Game.
