The Rain or Shine vs Magnolia game last Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Center would’ve marked the first time that current Elasto Painters import Denzel Bowles would play against his original PBA team, the squad that he led all the way to the championship of the 2012 edition of the Commissioner’s Cup.
Bowles, however, was indisposed due to a knee injury which he suffered during the team’s previous game against Alaska. Carl Montgomery took his place and led the Elasto Painters to a crucial 86-82 win over Hotshots who absorbed their 3rd straight loss and dampened their chances of automatically advancing to the next round.
Magnolia veteran Marc Pingris admitted that he initially found it difficult to accept that Bowles is already part of the opposing team.
“Di kami sanay,” said the 37-year old native of Pozorrubio, Pangasinan.
“Pero ang importante dyan yung samahan. Kahit nasa ibang team na sila, nandoon pa rin yung samahan namin. Na-appreciate namin lahat ng import namin. Nandoon talaga yung family kami,” Pingris added.
While the two failed to failed to talk personally during the game, the 9-time PBA champion is hoping that another opportunity to do so would present itself in the future.
“Gusto kong mag-hi sa kanya. Wala pa kaming pagkakataon na magkita. Pero sana, malay mo magkita ulit kami.”
