The NLEX Road Warriors opened the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup with four successive losses to remain at the bottom of the pack and things are certainly not looking good for the MVP Group’s five-year old franchise.
Jojo Lastimosa, the team’s lead assistant currently taking the cudgels for head coach Yeng Guiao who is in the middle of a three-game leave, revealed during the post-game interview after the team’s demoralizing loss to perennial cellar-dweller Columbian that help is on the way in the form of certified scorer Jericho Cruz.
“We don’t know yet but Jericho has been on the trading block for a while dahil nilagay na siya sa freezer. And naghihintay lang kami ng tamang trade package for him para makuha namin siya. We’re working on it and definitely most likely next week maayos na yan,” said the former PBA star.
Cruz is still mired in the Reserve/Injured list of TNT and while the official word from team officials is that he is out due to a hamstring injury, reliable sources claim that he is healthy and good to go.
The 28-year old product of Adamson University has only played for a total of 6 games this season, all in the Philippine Cup.
Cruz, who is a godson of Guiao, was actually on his way to the Road Warriors when he was still with Rain or Shine but the deal fell apart as the Elasto Painters were reportedly not interested in any of the NLEX players being offered.
NLEX will have a five-day rest before taking on the resurgent Blackwater on Saturday, June 8 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo and Lastimosa could only hope that Cruz will already be on board by then.
“Hopefully next game nandito na siya.”
