San Miguel veterans June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos are pleased with the addition of the flashy Terrence Romeo and both agree as well that the 27-year old guard out of the Far Eastern University has a lot more to show in the Finals of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
The SMB duo believes that Romeo, who will be playing in his first Finals after 6 uneventful seasons in the league, will be well-motivated to help the Beermen defend the crown they have consistently won since 2015.
“Malamang mas tataas ang kumpiyansa niya at isa yun sa magpapalakas sa San Miguel,” said Santos after the Beermen dispatched the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters in 5 games to barge into the finals of the most prestigious conference for the 5th straight season.
“Si Terrence pag tumaas ang kumpiyansa, mas mahirap kaming talunin sinasabi ko sa inyo,” he added.
Fajardo, the league’s only 5-time Most Valuable Player, echoed his teammate’s sentiments.
“Sana tuloy-tuloy nilalaro niya, malaking factor siya sa finals,” said Fajardo.
“Sobrang proud kami sa kanya kasi nandun na yung maturity niya. Di na siya yung noong dati na parang nakikipagaway siya, ngayon marunong na siya na parang di na siya pumapatol masyado sa away,” added the 6-foot-10 Cebuano.
Game 1 of the best-of-seven Finals will start on May 1 with the Beermen still awaiting their opponent.
The Magnolia Hotshots and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are currently tied at 3-3 in a race to 4 with the knockout game scheduled on Sunday, April 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
