The San Miguel Beermen will begin their PBA Governors’ Cup campaign without star center June Mar Fajardo due to a stress fracture on his right shin.

San Miguel team manager Gee Abanilla said Friday that the reigning Most Valuable Player will be out for at least six weeks, thus ruling him out for Gilas Pilipinas in the second round of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in mid-September.

“We are doing everything we can to help June Mar recover as quickly as possible with the help of our doctors and PTs,” Abanilla said.

Fajardo’s injury has put the Beermen in a dire situation as they try to redeem themselves from losing to crowd-favorite Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals earlier this month.
