If there’s one person who sorely wants June Mar Fajardo back and playing, it is the San Miguel Beer center himself.
“Basta ang gusto ko makabalik na sa game. Gusto ko ng makalaro. tumakbo sa game,” Fajardo told members of the media last Friday. “Two months na siguro… siyempre na-mi-miss ko na rin iyung game.”
The 6-10 behemoth has not seen action at all in the ongoing PBA Governors Cup, having been sidelined by a shin injury even before the season-ending tourney began last Aug. 17.
No definite time frame has been given on when he could play again, but Fajardo himself gave an inkling. “Malapit na. Baka makalaro na ako this month,” offered the soft-spoken giant.
According to league chief statistician Fidel Mangonon, Fajardo needs only one game to meet the required number a player needs to become a candidate for the season MVP award, one which he has won the last four seasons.
Fajardo has once again gained the inside track for the PBA’s highest individual award after bagging the Best Player of the Conference plums in both the Philippine and Commissioner’s Cups.
True to his nature, Fajardo said he wants to play again because of an entirely different reason.
“Sana makalaro ulit ako, di para du’n sa sake ng award. So kung maglalaro ako, ‘yung normal na laro,” he stressed.
