June Mar Fajardo led the San Miguel team with 26 points and 19 rebounds in Game 2 but his efforts went for naught as the Beermen absorbed an 88-93 defeat at the hands of a determined TNT crew, Monday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The victory by the KaTropa evened the best-of-three quarterfinal series at 1-game apiece and placed the defending champions one loss away from being dethroned.
The Beermen are gunning for a record-setting fifth straight Philippine Cup title and Fajardo knows all too well that missing the make-or-break Game 3 is something he is not prepared to do.
“Expect namin na hindi madali yung Game Three. Sana maipanalo namin, makapag-adjust kami ng maayos at makapagpahinga ng maayos. Kailangan namin ipanalo yung Game Three kasi ayaw pa namin magbakasyon,” said the five-time league MVP.
Fajardo hurt his left knee midway into the 4th period of Game 2 while jockeying for position with TNT bigs Kelly Williams and Troy Rosario. The 6-foot-10 Cebuano likewise suffered a scratch on his forehead courtesy of a wayward elbow from Rosario.
“Pag talon ko, biglang may bumangga tapos na-hyperextend,” said Fajardo.
The scratch, however, wasn’t a concern for Fajardo as he was more worried about his knee.
“Okay lang sa noo. Wag lag sa tuhod. Hindi problema yun,” he explained.
When asked if he could suit up in the do-or-die Game 3 given his current situation, Fajardo confidently replied “Pwede siguro.”
