Kai Sotto is looking forward to chasing his NBA dream alongside close friend Kobe Paras.
The 23-year old Paras just recently announced his decision to leave the University of the Philippines and sign with East West Private, the same agency in-charge of Sotto’s basketball journey.
“I’m very happy to have Kobe with East West Private,” said the 7-foot-3 son of former PBA player Ervin Sotto.
“Sobrang excited ako to work alongside Kobe, and to help each other na mag-succeed sa sari-sarili naming mga path,” he added.
Sotto, who is currently training in Miami, made the headlines last week after signing a multi-year deal with the Adelaide 36ers in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL). He is under the league’s Special Restricted Player rule which allows NBL teams to sign up players from Asian countries as locals.
Before coming to terms with the Aussie squad, Sotto re-affirmed his commitment for Gilas Pilipinas Men’s team in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT), FIBA Asia Cup and even future tournaments.
With regards to Paras’ decision to rekindle his plan of playing overseas, Sotto is relieved that he also chose EWP as his handler.
“Di alam ng maraming tao pero yung East West Private, nandyan lang yan talaga para tumulong para sa mga Filipino basketball players,” said Sotto.
“Talagang wala silang hinihingi sa yo. Talagang tutulungan ka lang nila na abutin yung dreams mo, lalo na’t kilala ko si Kobe and similar yung dreams namin, similar yung mga goals namin sa buhay.”
