Filipino teen prodigy Kai Sotto is looking forward to playing under NBA veteran and former Laker Brian Shaw in the NBA G League.
The 18-year old son of former PBA player Ervin Sotto expressed his excitement after the developmental league formally introduced Shaw as the head coach of the new Select team which is unaffiliated with any of the existing squads.

“Brian’s extensive experience and success as an NBA player and coach make him a natural choice to lead the new NBA G League team,” said NBA G League president Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
“We look forward to watching these terrific young players develop their skills and grow as professionals under Brian’s leadership,” he added.
Shaw is a three-time NBA champion who served as Kobe Bryant’s chief backup during the Lakers’ three-peat from 2000-2002. He won 2 more championships with the team as one of Phil Jackson’s assistants from 2009-2010.
The 54-year old native of Oakland, California also had coaching gigs in Indiana and Denver before returning to the Lakers in 2016 to serve as an assistant to Luke Walton.
“I’m excited to serve as head coach of the new NBA G League team,” said Shaw. “This is a new and different challenge in my career, and I’m ready to get to work mentoring, coaching and developing the next generation of NBA stars.”
Aside from Sotto, other notables on the Select team are Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix.
