Brgy. Ginebra picked up its 1,000th win in the PBA at the expense of no less than sister team San Miguel, the league’s most successful franchise with 26 titles tucked under its belt and the first team to reach the 1,000 wins plateau.
Incidentally, the Gin Kings reached the milestone on its 40th anniversary and during a rematch of last season’s Commissioner’s Cup finalists.
LA Tenorio, Brgy. Ginebra’s chief point guard who actually started out his PBA career with the Beermen in 2006, was flattered to be part of the crowd darlings’ latest achievement.
“First team ba to reach 1,000? Hindi naman? It just shows na yung team ng Ginebra, capable din naman na manalo ng ganun karami,” said the 34-year old native of Nasugbu, Batangas.
“Maraming beses na ako naging part ng history dito sa Ginebra, I’m very thankful na naging part ulit ako ng ganun milestone para sa franchise,” he added.
Tenorio was chosen by the Beermen, then known as the Magnolia Beverage Masters, as the 4th overall pick of the 2006 Rookie Draft. He was sent to the Alaska Aces after two seasons along with Larry Fonacier for Mike Cortez and Ken Bono.
His stay with the Wilfred Uytengsu-owned franchise lasted four years. He was eventually traded to Brgy. Ginebra in 2012 in a blockbuster five-team deal which also included Enrico Villanueva, Willie Miller, Jvee Casio and Dondon Hontiveros, among others.
