Magnolia absorbed its second straight defeat at the hands of Manila Clasico rival Brgy. Ginebra in the ongoing 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
While the second one was a lot closer compared to the first, it was more painful for the Hotshots considering that the loss put them one step closer from getting eliminated in the mid-season spectacle.
Magnolia’s top-scoring local Paul Lee attributes his team’s struggles against the Gin Kings to the addition of last season’s scoring champion Stanley Pringle to the already formidable line-up of the defending champs.
“I think tumama lang yung game plan namin last conference. But this conference, different scenario. They got (Justin) Brownlee, they got Stanley, so nandoon yung may piyesa sila para manalo every game,” said Lee in reference to their 2-1 win over Brgy. Ginebra in the quarterfinals of the Philippine Cup.
The 30-year old native of Tondo, Manila credited Pringle for his role in the Gin Kings’ 85-79 win over the Hotshots in the series opener of their best-of-three affair.
“Kitang-kita naman talaga natin. Kapag hindi nag-work yung triangle, down eight, seven seconds, most of the time yung bola na kay Stanley saka na kay Brownlee. Yun siguro yung naging story,” explained Lee.
“We all know naman na both of them, sobrang galing talaga mag-create ng situation.”
Lee is now hoping for a repeat of last conference’s scenario wherein the Hotshots overcame a 0-1 series deficit against the same opponent to advance to the next round.
“I wish na ganun yung maging scenario ulit. Yun nga, sabi ko bago mag-start itong playoffs na ito, it’s gonna be a different scenario kasi nga they got Justin and Stanley. So let’s see.”
